Position descriptions
The experienced metal stud carpenter is able to read blueprints and layout according to the plans, build metal stud walls (light gauge and structural), soffits, and suspended drywall ceilings. You must know how to operate all the tools that are associated with the trade, as well as the different types of fasteners that are used. You must have your own tools that are needed to do the job quickly and properly (Tape, C-Clamps, framing & speed squares, levels, etc.). You must also know how to perform the tasks of “Drywall Hanger” listed below.
The experienced drywall hanger knows how to hang drywall on both metal studs and wood. This includes hanging on both walls and ceilings. You must know how to operate a screw gun and have the necessary tools to perform your job in a quick and efficient manner (T-Square, router, floor jack, glue gun, drywall saw, etc.).
You must have at least two years experience finishing drywall. You must be able to apply tape, a bed coat and a skim coat in a quick and efficient manner, along with sanding to make the drywall ready to paint with very little or no touch up needed. You must be able to work with different types of joint compounds as well (all purpose, light weight, dura-bond, etc.). You must have your own tools that are needed to finish drywall quickly and properly (mixing drill and paddle, knives, stilts, etc).
You must know how to install wall angle, hanger wires, and different types of ceiling grid and tiles quickly and efficiently. You must know how to cut tegular / reveal border cuts when installing tile. You must be familiar with the different types of fasteners that are used and have the necessary tools to install ceilings (pop rivet gun, punch, clamps, etc.).
You must be willing to start out at the bottom of the ladder, yet possess a desire to learn one or more of the above skilled trades. To start out, you will be responsible for all jobsite clean-up and material handling. When these tasks are completed, you will be trained in any of the above skilled trades.
